JOHN DEERE LETTER
Jason Matthews/Wynn Varble/Jim McCormick
This here's the story of Elmer Cobb
Hardworking farmer who loved his job
Every year around harvest time
He'd spend all night and day in that old combine
Now elmer had a wife of about six months
But with the crops coming in he hadn't seen her much
Then one morning he climbed up in the cab
And found a note taped to the dash
It was a John Deere letter
Saying goodbye, I hope you're happy together
It was short and sweet
Mowed him down like a field of wheat
She did the ol' Dear John one better with a John Deere letter
Well, Elmer got to wondering why she'd up and leave
Then he remembered that night down at the Dairy Queen
She was talking to a cropduster by the name of Clyde
A slick looking fellow, smelled like pesticides
He put two and two together and he figured out
She was probably flying high with ol' Clyde right now
And his heart was breaking just like a shearpin
Still couldn't believe it so he read it again
It was a John Deere letter
Saying goodbye and I hope you have bad weather (you two should be together)
It was short and sweet
Mowed him down like a field of wheat yeah,
She did Dear John one better with a John Deere letter
The more he thought, the madder he got
So he put that tractor in gear
And he spelled out a few choice words
In case they fly by here
It was a John Deere letter
Saying goodbye, I hope you hit bad weather
It was short and sweet
He mowed it out in a field of wheat yeah
He did her Dear John one better with his John Deere letter
