THE LEGEND OF EVERYDAY JOE
(Patrick Jason Matthews/Harold Corey Mayo)
While most kids were out being cool
He worked hard mowing yards after school
Buying his first car and a milkshake when he could
He never smoked and he rarely drank
Unlike that Ford with some gas in the tank
And he'd drive like the wind, one time even slept out on the hood
Took his grandma to church, said it made him feel good
And he listened to the Beatles
And he listened to his heart
And he listened to that motor roar the mornings it would start
And everybody knows him
Everywhere you go
Just ask around any given town
It's the legend of Everyday Joe
On the way home from his grandma's house
He saw a car on the railway track stalled out
With little kids in the back, and he could see that train a-coming
He noticed the woman behind the wheel
Didn't know what to do, she was frozen with fear
He knew inside he had to do something
So bumper to bumper, pedal to the floor
He pushed her to safety with the train at his door
Halfway across, his car just stopped running
He just did what he hoped someone else would do for him
And all the flowers around his grave could've filled the high school gym
He listened to the Beatles
And he listened to his heart
He listened to that motor roar the mornings it would start
And everybody knows him
Everywhere you go
Just ask around any given town
It's the legend of Everyday Joe
There's heroes around in every town
There's a legend of an Everyday Joe
